What is SBI PO Exam?

SBI PO Notification 2018 has been released on 21st April 2018 by State Bank of India. This recruitment process has started post release of official notification and it will be conducted for selection of candidates to the post of PO in State Bank of India and its Associate banks. The candidates selected are liable to be posted anywhere in India.

There is a great future ahead in SBI PO. State Bank of India is the largest bank in India and it provides many opportunities to all its employees. SBI PO jobs are considered as the most reputed job among all the jobs by the banks.

Future of SBI PO (Probationary Officer)
1. Probationary Officer: At first the candidates who got selected in SBI PO exam are posted as Probationary Officer that are also known as Assistant Manager or JMGS I. This is the first lever of your future as PO.
2. Deputy Manager: After the Probationary Officer, the candidates go promoted as Deputy Manager that is also called MMGS II.
3. Manager: Also known as MMGS III. It is the next promoting stage for Probationary Officers in SBI bank.
4. Chief Manager: This is the next promoting level. Chief Manager is known as SMGS IV.
5. Assistant General Manager: Assistant General Manager is the reputed post that can be achieved after Chief Manager. This is also known as SMGS V.
6. Deputy General Manager: TEGS VI is also known as Deputy General Manager. It is the second biggest and reputed post for Probationary Officers that may get it after being promoted.
7. General Manager: TEGS VII is the most popular post for a Probationary Officer that can be achieved after 2–3 years of posting. A General Manager can be posted in out of India head quarter of SBI bank.

    Eligibility Criteria

    All Indian Citizens are eligible to apply. Candidates selected are liable to be posted anywhere in India.
    ♦ Essential academic qualifications (As on stipulated date given in the related advertisement).

    Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government.
    Those who are in the Final year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before eligibility date as given in related advertisement.
    Candidates having integrated dual degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before eligibility date as given in related advertisement. The date of passing eligibility examination will be the date appearing on the mark sheet or provisional certificate issued by the University / Institute. In case the result of a particular examination is posted on the website of the University / Institute, a certificate issued by the appropriate authority of the University / Institute indicating the date on which the result was posted on the website will be taken as the date of passing.

    Age limit (As on stipulated date given in the related advertisement)

    Number of Chances

    Candidates who have already appeared for the maximum number of chances permissible are not eligible to to apply. The number of chances will be counted from the examination held on 18.04.2010. Appearing in Preliminary Examination will not be counted as a chance

    Examination Pattern

    The examination will be held in two phases preliminary and main. Candidates who will qualify in preliminary examination and shortlisted will have to appear for Main examination and shortlisted candidates in the main examination will subsequently be called for a Group Discussion & Interview.

    Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

    Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

    Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be short listed for the Main Examination.

    Phase-II: Main Examination

    Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.
    I. Objective Test: The objective test of 3 hours duration consist of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The objective test will have separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
    II. Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
    Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

    ♦ Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both - Preliminary and Main examination) There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

    Phase-III: Group Discussion & Interview

    The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category. Adequate number of candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.

    Pay Scale

    Presently the starting basic pay is Rs.27,620/- (with 4 advance increments) in the scale of Rs. 23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The official will also be eligible for D.A, H.R.A/ Lease rental, C.C.A, Medical and other allowances & perquisites as per rules in force from time to time. The total compensation per annum would be a minimum of Rs. 7.55 lacs and maximum of Rs. 12.93 lacs depending on place of posting and other factors.
    SBI plans to offer, subject to necessary approvals, a SMART Compensation package which would enable candidates a choice to monetize specific elements of the salary package.

    How To Apply?

    Candidates can apply online only from 21.04.2018 to 13.05.2018. No other mode of application will be accepted.
    Pre-requisites for Applying Online:
    Candidates should have valid email ID which should be kept active till the declaration of results. It will be essentially required for receiving any communication from the bank.


    Candidates will be required to register themselves online through Bank's website or After registration candidates are required to pay the requisite application fee through online mode by using debit card/ credit card/ Internet Banking.

    a. REGISTRATION & PAYMENT OF FEES: [Online Mode Only]:

    i. Candidates should first scan their photograph and signature as detailed under guidelines for scanning the photograph and signature.
    ii. Candidates to visit Bank's website or and open the appropriate Online Application Form, available in the 'Current Openings’.
    iii. Fill the application carefully. Once the application is filled in completely, candidates should submit the data. In the event of candidates not being able to fill the data in one go, they can save the data already entered. When the data is saved, a provisional registration number and password will be generated by the system and displayed on the screen. Candidates should note down the registration number and password. They can re-open the saved data using registration number and password and edit the particulars, if needed. This facility will be available three times only. Once the application is filled in completely, candidates should submit the data. No change /edit will be allowed thereafter. The registration at this stage is provisional.
    iv. After ensuring the correctness of the particulars of the application form, candidates are required to pay fees through the payment gateway integrated with the application, following the instructions available on the screen.
    v. The payment can be made by using debit card/ credit card/ Internet Banking by providing information as asked on the screen. Transaction charges for online payment, if any, will be borne by the candidates.
    vi. On successful completion of the transaction, e-receipt and application form will be generated; which may be printed for record. The printout of the application form is NOT to be sent to the Bank.
    vii. If the online transaction is not successfully completed, please register again and make payment online.
    viii. There is also a provision to reprint the e-Receipt and Application form containing fee details, at later stage.


    Before applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of his/ her/ their photograph and signature as per the specifications given in Annexure-II. Online application will not be registered unless candidates upload photo and signature as specified.

    i. In case the face in the photograph or signature is unclear, the applicant’s candidature may be rejected.
    ii. In case the photograph or signature is unclear, the candidate may edit his/ her/ their application and re-upload his/ her/ their photograph or signature.

    SBI PO Admit Card

    State Bank of India has released SBI PO Admit Card 2018 for Preliminary Exam. The Online Examination for SBI PO Prelims 2018 is scheduled on 1st, 7th & 8th July 2018. Admit Card for Preliminary Exam has released,Thereafter Admit Card for Mains Exam and then for Interview Process. Always remember that the Admit Card for Mains Exam will be issued to candidates who clear the preliminary phase of examination. Similarly, Admit Card for Interview Process will be issued to candidates who clear Mains Exam.

    To download his/her SBI PO Admit Card 2018, a candidate must have the below mentioned requisites:
    • Username/Registration Number

    By filling in these two requisites candidate will be directed to the page of SBI PO Admit Card 2018. A candidate is required to download his/her admit card, take a print out of the same and carry it to the venue of examination as a proof for his/her eligibility for the examination.

    SBI PO Result

    State Bank of India has released SBI PO Result 2018 for Preliminary Exam. The State Bank of India has released the result of PO prelim exam on July 16, on its official website, All those who had appeared for the exam can check their respective results at the website or check it out here below. The second stage, that is, the mains will be conducted on August 4.

    SBI PO Selection Procedure

    Final Selection

    The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in Objective Test and Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in GD & Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final merit list.
    The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 225 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.

    How To Prepare?

    SBI PO usually are conducted in between June-July of every year and is considered as the toughest banking exams. So you need to be more focused and organised towards your Preparations.

    Few important points to be considered during the preparation of SBI PO exams are as follows:

    What are the common issues faced by the candidates at the time of examination?
    i) Non-collection of call letters, signature missing in the attendance sheet: The candidates will be allowed to enter the lab on Submission / Authentication of
    a. Call letter
    b. ID proof bearing exactly the same name
    c. Photo ID and other identity related credentials
    (ii) Signatures of all the candidates present in the lab are to be obtained on the attendance list. If the candidates forget or do not sign the attendance sheet, their presence will not be considered only on the basis of online exam responses.

    I am unable to upload photo and signature.
    The advertisement as well as the relevant registration page prescribes detailed guidelines for uploading the photo and signature. The preferred photo dimensions are 200 x 230 pixels and the file size should be between 20kb-50kb. The signature image should be of 140 x 60 pixels (preferred) and the size between 10kb - 20kb.

    I have not received confirmation mail for registration and password.
    Email/SMS is triggered and the same is sent to the candidates on the email ID and Mobile number registered by them while applying for the post. Kindly check the same.

    Payment has been debited from the account but I have not received registration confirmation.
    Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-receipt and online application form. Please note that if the e-receipt is not generated, online transaction may not have been successful. Then candidates are advised to login again with their registration number and password and pay the Application Fees/ Intimation Charges online.
    If candidate's account is debited and the said transaction is also showing as failed, the amount debited is expected to be credited to the respective account in the due course as per failed transaction rules of the Banks.

    What is the status of my Registration?
    a) If the candidate's registration is successful he/she has to take printout of the application form with the help of registration no. and password.
    b) If candidate's registration/ payment is not successful; Payment gateway is expected to refund the amount in due course, if any.

    By mistake I have submitted incorrect information (Date of Birth, Category, Name, Gender, Percentage of marks, address, mobile number etc.) Please make these changes at your end (after final submit)
    No change in the data already registered by the candidate in the online application form is possible as per the terms and conditions of the advertisement /notification. There is save and edit option available through which changes can be made in the online application PRIOR TO SUBMISSION before the last date for registration. The candidates are advised to check all the entries made by them and only then SUBMIT the application.

    I forgot my Registration Password/ Registration number
    Registration Password/Registration Number are sent to the mobile number and email id mentioned in the online application form. Candidates are advised to check and preserve the same for registration number and password. Registration No. is also printed on the application form printed after successful registration, of which a candidate is required to keep a printout. We do not provide registration number password repeatedly.

    I am not able to download the Pre-Exam training call letter.
    Pre exam training call letter is only for SC/ST/Minority candidates for Officers Cadre and SC/ST/Minority /EXS/PWD candidates for Clerical Cadre. It will not be available if the Pre-Exam training option is NOT REGISTERED for at the time of online registration.

    I cannot download the Exam call letter.
    This may be due to unsuccessful registration/incorrect login credential's.

    I want to change my Centre/Venue / Date /Time.
    The allotted Date, Time and Venue for the exam cannot be changed as per the terms and conditions mentioned in the advertisement

    My allotted Exam center not as per selected exam center.
    Candidates who opt for a particular centre of exam might not be accommodated therein for reason beyond the control of SBI. Such candidates will be allotted other centres and they are required to appear for the examination at the allotted Centre only.

    I am not allowed to appear for exam (Late entry, ID proof, Name mismatch).
    The advertisement /notification /call letter mentions in detail about the procedures/conditions to be followed for online examination .The candidates are expected to follow these guidelines to avoid these problems.

    I forgot my password.
    The password is shared on the mobile number and email id registered in the online application form.

    I am not satisfied with the score mentioned in the score card. Can you recheck exam score?
    There is no provision of rechecking of answers/exam score.

    I am not able to download my Interview call letter.
    Visit official SBI recruitment website. Candidate can download call letter with the help of Registration number and Password during the stipulated period.

    How do I reprint my application form
    Reprint Link is available on official SBI recruitment website during the stipulated period.

    I want to request for a change in category (OBC, SC, ST, EX-SERVICEMEN)
    No change in the data already registered by the candidate in the online application form is possible, which is also mentioned in the advertisement. Before SUBMITTING the online application form, edit option may be exercised carefully.

    I have not received any communication from your end hence I could not attend interview. Please arrange interview for me.

    Why is PET not given to General candidate?
    PET is provided as per the Govt. guidelines in this regard.
